History of the North Cascades Chapter

The North Cascades Chapter is a chartered unit of the American Red Cross, with volunteers at it heart since its charter in October 1933. The charter authorizes the chapter to deliver Red Cross chapter services and meet corporate obligations, within its assigned jurisdiction, consistent with the mission and goals of the American Red Cross and the policies and regulations of the Board of Governance.

The Chapter office is located at the intersection of Oak and 4th in Okanogan, Washington. The North Cascades Chapter employs two people: Executive Director, Sheron Sheldon, and a Program Manager.

The North Cascades Chapter services all of Okanogan County plus Bridgeport and Mansfield located in Douglas County, Keller and Inchelium located in Ferry County and Electric City and Grand Coulee located in parts of five different counties.

The chapter comprises 25 different zip codes. We try to have Disaster coordinators and Disaster Action Teams in each of the main areas, who respond to single family fires or other individual disasters in a timely manner.

We also teach Health & Safety classes in all parts of the chapter. In the summer the chapter trains most of the lifeguards and water safety instructors for many of the local pools.

The Pacific Blood Region of American Red Cross works with the chapter so that the public has the opportunity to give blood for use in our local hospitals. That means there are public blood draws in various parts of our chapter about every 6 weeks.
